Knowing what the gods want us to do in their service can be difficult to discern. What better way to find out than to send a letter with Hermes as your emissary? You will need a piece of paper, a pen, an herbal wash, and an envelope. The wash can be as simple as hot water poured over thyme for courage. Let the herbal wash steep for an hour and then strain. While you wait, write your letter to your patron deity or just to spirit. Ask how you can be of service and for any messages that they may have for you. Lightly cover the letter with the herbal wash. You can dab with your fingers, or use a paintbrush or a paper towel soaked with the herbal wash to lightly go over the surface. Seal the letter in an envelope and address it to the deity you wish to communicate with. Burn the letter in a heat-safe container. Take the ashes and scatter them into the wind, saying: Hermes, on swift feet fly. Take my letter to those in the sky. |
